Eddy Awards for river stewardship


River Action, Inc. President Jim Standaert presents "Eddy Awards" to recognize individuals and organizations for "going against the flow" in promoting environmental stewardship of the Mississippi River. This year's winners, presented during Earth Day clean-up at Pigeon Creek Park, Bettendorf, were: Earl Hanson School, Rock Island (education); Kunhild Blacklock (art); MetroLINK and its Channel Cat Water Taxi (river activity); City of Davenport (design work for creation of Centennial Park); Dan Carmody, executive director of Development Association of Rock Island (revitalization); and former Quad City Times reporter Barb Arland-Frye (stewardship).

A 'dry' summer for Splash Landing


Bettendorf's Splash Landing stands empty as construction work begins on renovation to replace the old aluminum pool and remedy the recurring water quality problems at the facility. The entire Splash Landing, including the children's wading pool area, will be closed all season to enable the work to be completed in time for the 2003 swimming season.

Middle school student to sing at John O'Donnell


Brittany Dally, Bettendorf Middle School 8th grader, will sing the national anthem at the Quad City River Bandits game Friday, May 10 at John O'Donnell Stadium.


Dally has been singing since she was a three-year-old in Oklahoma.

She has sung often at the Bettendorf Christian Church and at school and church functions. She's also preformed with her friends in the Children's Holiday Pops for the past five years.
