PV beats Bettendorf in boy's basketball

The Pleasant Valley boys basketball team tamed the Bettendorf Bulldogs February 28 to gain a share of the MAC championship, the first ever for the Spartans.


The Spartans prevailed at home by four points, revenging a loss to Bettendorf last month.

With the win, Pleasant Valley tied for first place in the league along with Muscatine and North Scott. Bettendorf finished in a tie for second with Davenport Assumption.


The Spartan student body sported white t-shirts to support the team with a "white-out."

The Spartans began playoff competition March 5, defeating Clinton 54-45 at the Pleasant Valley gym. The Spartans will face Dubuque Wahlert next.

Bettendorf School Board Minutes for Feb. 18

Ms. Carol Webb, Assistant Superintendent, provided an update from the Class Size Committee. A variety of options and costs for the 2003/2004 school year included the following: maintaining core time ($301,728); expanding core time to include third grade ($300,447); eliminate core time and reduce class size in grades K-3 to 21 and grades 4-5 to 24 students per class ($344,000,'); continue core time and reduce class size in buildings with special programs or small classrooms ($389,476); or continue core time and reduce class size to 21 students for third grade ($389,476).

Bulldogs defeat North Scott in overtime


North Scott Coach Brent Reissen exhorts his players during the overtime period of the Lancer-Bulldog game Friday at "The Pit." The Bulldogs won the game 61-57, led by Bulldog senior guard Drew Wessels who scored 30 points. The win kept Bettendorf's conference title hopes alive and left Muscatine alone atop the MAC with one week left in the regular season. With the loss, North Scott slipped into a second place tie in the league with Bettendorf and Assumption.

Assumption upends Bulldogs 53-51



The Bettendorf Bulldogs prepare for the final minutes of the basketball game Friday (Feb. 21) against Davenport Assumption. The Bulldogs rallied from a 12 point third quarter deficit to tie the contest in the final minutes, but Assumption scored and a last second shot by Bettendorf rolled off the rim. Assumption is tied for the lead in the MAC with North Scott. Bettendorf fell into a second place tie with Muscatine.

Duck swim among patches of ice along the Mississippi River shoreline in Bettendorf. The recent cold snap created more ice on area ponds and rivers, but a thaw with temperatures in the 50's are expected over the weekend.
