The football playoffs began with a repeat of the season opener between Bettendorf (9-0) and Pleasant Valley (7-2). While the Bulldogs handled the Spartans easily in September, the game Wednesday night (11/3) was a much tougher and closer contest. Pleasant Valley held a 6-0 lead until Bettendorf scored a touchdown in the final seconds of the second quarter. Leading 7-6 in the fourth, Bettendorf added a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Fick to Chris Ivory and a 20-yard TD run by halfback Tim Jackson to seal the win. Next up for Bettendorf is a rematch with Davenport Assumption Monday (11/8) at TouVelle Stadium. Assumption (8-2) defeated Muscatine in its playoff opener 38-3.

The walls of the new Schnuck's supermarket go up at Duck Creek Plaza. The new store will join Home Depot, Walgreens and McDonald's in the rejunvenated retail location at Middle Road and East Kimberly Road. For Schnuck's, the Bettendorf store will be its first in Iowa. Ask the experts. Ask a librarian, or consult a fact-checking site.
