The new I-74 Bridge in downtown Bettendorf includes shade-tolerant landscaping and lighting under the elevated concrete approaches.

In a fog

Fog and rain create a fuzzy, drab landscape at Palmer Hills Golf Course, Bettendorf. After receiving more than a half foot of snow last week, warmer temperatures moved into the area creating thick fog and a thunderstorm with heavy rain.

Bulldogs overpower Davenport North Wildcats

Bettendorf center Mike Vandello makes an inbound pass to Jeff Bitter against Davenport North Friday (1/7). The Bulldogs, behind a season high 20 points by Andy Brooks (no. 32), overwhelmed the Wildcats 66-48. With the win, Bettendorf moved to 6-0 in the MAC. City rival Pleasant Valley also is 6-0 in the MAC and ranked 6th in the 4A poll, one notch behind Bettendorf. The two teams will meet for the first time this season Jan. 25 at Bettendorf. Crystal berries

Ice coats branches and berries, creating a crystal showcase of local trees and shrubs. Unfortunately, the ice coating caused damage to many trees as the first major winter storm of the season arrived. An estimated 9 inches or more of snow is expected to fall tonight (1/5) making for hazardous driving and school closings.

Ice forms on Mississippi River

A light snow and much colder temperatures arrived with the first day of winter, turning the Mississippi River at Leach Park into a frosty scene. Warmer temperatures, expected to reach near 50 degrees later this week, are expected to melt the light snow which arrived Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
