SEPTEMBER 9, 2002

The Bettendorf Park Board held a special meeting on September 9, 2002 in the Canteen Room at 4:00 pm at the Herbert D. Goettsch Community Center.

Present: Adamson, Kamp, Glenn, and Hutter
Absent: Makoben

Stu Smith reviewed the monthly park maintenance report, which is annex #1 to these minutes.

Stu explained that the Band Shell roadway is to grade and the rock is in place. The construction company is on hold until the Board decides what to do with 25th Street.

The Bettendorf Park Board held a regular meeting on September 11, 2002 at 7:00 pm in the Canteen Room at the Herbert D. Goettsch Community Center.

Chairman Adamson opened the meeting to anyone present to address the Board regarding any item of interest that does not appear on the Agenda.

There was no one present to address the Board regarding items not on the Agenda.

Duck Creek demolition


Demolition has begun on part of Duck Creek Plaza to make room for construction of a new Home Depot. Eventually, all of Duck Creek Plaza will be demolished with the exception of the office building on the northwest side of the property. A new Walgreens, a grocery store and additional fast food outlets also are planned for the property.

Bulldogs, Spartans end season; North Scott to state


Bettendorf rallied to beat Davenport Central (above) at home in its first playoff action, but lost Tuesday (March 4) to Davenport North, 57-51. The Pleasant Valley Spartans also won their first playoff game against Clinton, but fell to Dubuque Wahlert in its substate match-up. Meanwhile, North Scott beat Dubuque Hempstead and then narrowly defeated Dubuque Wahlert, 67-65, to advance to a state tournament berth Friday in Des Moines.

March 3 minutes of the PV school board meeting

PV Board Minutes 3.3.03, includes acceptance of asbestos removal bids and window replacement bids, as well as an update on the recent Aggressor, Victim, and Bystander training the junior high faculty participated in.

March arrives like a lion



March arrived like a lion as more than six inches of snow blanketed the area. The snowfall was the most the area has received so far this winter.

PV beats Bettendorf in boy's basketball

The Pleasant Valley boys basketball team tamed the Bettendorf Bulldogs February 28 to gain a share of the MAC championship, the first ever for the Spartans.


The Spartans prevailed at home by four points, revenging a loss to Bettendorf last month.

With the win, Pleasant Valley tied for first place in the league along with Muscatine and North Scott. Bettendorf finished in a tie for second with Davenport Assumption.


The Spartan student body sported white t-shirts to support the team with a "white-out."

The Spartans began playoff competition March 5, defeating Clinton 54-45 at the Pleasant Valley gym. The Spartans will face Dubuque Wahlert next.
