MEMBERS PRESENT: Regular meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Debbie Dayman. Members present: Barsness, Dayman, Kaminski, Messman, O'Hara, Schurr. Absent: Hoffmann. Also present: Jim Spelhaug, Cyndy Behrer, Mike Clingingsmith, Debbie Menke, Samantha Goldstein, Jeffrey Goldstein, Regina Feldman- Goldstein, Jayne Ruckoldt, Keith Cavanagh, Barbara Skjei, and Christine Harvey.

AGENDA APPROVED: Motion by Barsness, second by Messman that the Agenda be approved as presented. All ayes. Motion carried.

Downtown development


Earthmoving and site work has begun on a new office and retail center in downtown Bettendorf. The city purchased a number of old downtown buildings, including a dance studio and tavern/restaurant along State Street just east of city hall, to make way for the redevelopment effort.

Colors of fall


Mums and marigolds add fall colors to the Mississippi River shoreline at Leach Park, Bettendorf. The cooler evenings and shorter days usher in the first day of fall Wednesday (Sept. 22).

Friday night football at Bettendorf High


The Bettendorf High School marching band performs prior to the start of the Friday night football game with North Scott High. The Bulldogs defeated North Scott 35-3 to go to 2-0 in the MAC. Bettendorf got a 98-yard kick-off return by Chris Ivory to start the second half and the Bulldogs defense held the Lancers in check throughout the contest.

Unofficial Minutes of the September 7, 2004, Regular Meeting

1. Call to Order.

The Board of Directors of the Bettendorf Community School District, in the County of Scott, state of Iowa, met in open session according to Iowa law for their regular Board meeting at the Ray Stensvad Administration Center, 3311 Central Avenue, Bettendorf, Iowa, on September 7, 2004. President Anderson called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. and the Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Lynne Lindstrom, Board Secretary, verified that the meeting notice had been posted and mailed to the media as required by law. Members present: Directors Anderson, Castro, Crockett, Luton, Mayer, Roski, Weigle.

Members absent: None. Other officials present: John Perdue, Superintendent; Carol Webb, Assistant Superintendent; Maxine McEnany, Director of Financial and Business Services; Celeste Reuter, Director of Communications; John Campbell, Director of Operations; Joe Slavens, Board Treasurer; Tim Holmes and Erin Cavanaugh, Student Council Representatives; Lynne Lindstrom, Board Secretary.

Bulldogs down PV in season opener, 42-3


The Pleasant Valley Spartans score their only points of the game, a 30-yard fieldgoal, just before halftime in last Friday's (9/3) opener against Bettendorf. The Bulldogs, ranked number one among the state's 4A schools, scored early and often to pile up a 35-3 lead at halftime. Running back Tim Jackson had four touchdowns, including a 60-yard punt return.

More than 1,200 runners/walkers and rollerbladers participated in our 9th annual run in 2003. Proceeds funded the Carl D. Schillig Memorial Fund, Inc., a 501-c(3) organization. Distributions were made to the Pleasant Valley High School Scholarship Fund (our 6th annual college scholarship was awarded this year).

In 2003, scholarships are extended to graduate/s of Bettendorf High School. The Cornbelt Running Club, Bettendorf Swim Club, 16th Iowa Civil War Re-enactors and Our Lady of Lourdes Church also were recipients of run proceeds.
