Sailboats crisscross Lake Davenport (Mississippi River) as part of the Davenport Sailing Club's Polar Bear Regatta held each October.

Crystal berries

Ice coats branches and berries, creating a crystal showcase of local trees and shrubs. Unfortunately, the ice coating caused damage to many trees as the first major winter storm of the season arrived. An estimated 9 inches or more of snow is expected to fall tonight (1/5) making for hazardous driving and school closings.

Ice forms on Mississippi River

A light snow and much colder temperatures arrived with the first day of winter, turning the Mississippi River at Leach Park into a frosty scene. Warmer temperatures, expected to reach near 50 degrees later this week, are expected to melt the light snow which arrived Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
