Bettendorf alderman Greg Adamson spent just over $6,900 on his 4th Ward election campaign last fall to unseat incumbent Patricia Malinee, according to his state campaign report filed January 17.
The amount spent on the 4th Ward contest is believed to be a record for an aldermanic contest in the city.
Alderman at-large winner Timothy Stecker, who reported spending $3,315 in his November campaign report, has yet to file a spending report with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board. The deadline for filing the post-election campaign spending report was January 19.
Adamson raised a total of $6,155, with the 40 percent coming from outside the 4th Ward and 30 percent from outside the city. In addition to the campaign donations, Adamson loaned his campaign $760 to cover his election expenses.
Adamson currently serves as treasurer of the Scott County Republican Party and had previously served on the Scott County Board and the Bettendorf Park Board. He is retired from the Bettendorf Police Department.
Malinee, who ran unopposed in her first aldermanic campaign in 2005, spent less than $750 on her November 2009 campaign.
Stecker defeated current Bettendorf Park Board member Judy Gackle and Ron Solt in the November election. Gackle spent $1,300 on her election campaign, while Solt spent less than $750.
