BHS Wrestling wraps up successful season

The Bettendorf High wrestlers wrapped up the 2000-2001 season at the district meet in Clinton, sending two hopefuls to the state meet in Des Moines this weekend.

Andrew Bribriesco, a sophomore at 130 pounds, along with his junior brother, 152-pounder Anthony Bribriesco.

The team will be losing three senior letter winners, Joel Schorg, Brent Martin and Andrew Marshall.

"I really liked the atmosphere and thought that the team worked great together, but think personally that I could have done better than I did in the season," said Anthony. Anthony will have a very tough first match in the state tournament in Des Moines, wrestling Iowa City High's Johnny Gallaway who is heavily favored to win.

"I think that we took a bunch of young athletes and taught them how to compete on a varsity level," said Head Coach Dan Drexler. "People don't realize how hard it is to be a wrestler and how much work and dedication you have to put into it." Coach Drexler also believes the returning wrestlers will continue a solid work ethic and carry it over to next season.
