Isle of Capri casinos lose $11.4 million in 3rd quarter; January admissions slide

Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc., owners of the Isle of Capri, Bettendorf, lost $11.4 million in the third quarter ended January 24, compared to a $48.3 million profit for the same period in 2009.

Revenues for the third quarter totaled $227 million, down from $302 million in the same 3-month period a year ago.

The Isle has 14 casino properties including four in Iowa (Bettendorf, Davenport, Marquette and Waterloo). Revenues at all Iowa properties except Waterloo declined in the third quarter, with Bettendorf revenues down nearly $2 million compared to the same period a year ago.

The 85,609 admissions for January was down 32 percent from five years ago and off more than 44 percent from the gambling boat's highest January total, 153,822 admissions in January 2000.

The January admissions were the lowest January total since the first year the Diamond Lady gambling boat (a predeccesor to the Isle of Capri) began operating along Bettendorf's riverfront in 1992. A total 36,850 people boarded the Diamond Lady that January.
