The Bettendorf boys basketball team rebounded from a dismal first quarter to post a 62-56 win Friday night (3/2) over the Clinton River Kings and advance in the Class 4A playoffs.
The Bulldogs came out sluggish and trailed by as much as 10 points. However, thanks to some key contributions from the bench -- notably 6-6 center Brock Halverson -- Bettendorf roared back to trail by only three at the break.
The Bulldogs pushed the lead to eight in the third period, only to have the Clinton rally and pull back to within a bucket by the fourth period.
Some key freethrows by guards Drew Wessels and Mike Martin sealed the victory.
Bettendorf will face the winner of the North Scott versus Dubuque Hempstead in the next tournament match-up to be played at Dubuque.
