Unofficial Minutes of the November 1, 2004, Special Meeting (Pending Board Approval)

1. Call to Order.

The Board of Directors of the Bettendorf Community School District, in the County of Scott, state of Iowa, met for a special meeting at the Ray Stensvad Administration Center, 3311 Central Avenue, Bettendorf, Iowa, on November 1, 2004.

President Anderson called the meeting to order at 6:16 p.m. Lynne Lindstrom, Board Secretary, verified that the meeting notice had been posted and mailed to the media as required by law.

Members present: Directors Anderson, Castro, Crockett, Ehrmann, Luton, Mayer, Weigle. Members absent: None. Other officials present: John Perdue, Superintendent; Carol Webb, Assistant Superintendent; Lynne Lindstrom, Board Secretary.

2. Agenda Approval.

Motion by Director Castro, seconded by Director Crockett, to approve the agenda as distributed.

Ayes: 7 Directors Anderson, Castro, Crockett, Ehrmann, Luton, Mayer, Weigle. Nays: 0 Motion carried 7-0. 3. Learning Session.

Superintendent Perdue led the discussion regarding the book entitled Getting Started: Reculturing Schools to Become Professional Learning Communities by R. Eaker, R. DuFour, and R. DuFour. Board members viewed a video and reviewed the introduction, which focused on conceptual framework for creating a professional learning community. Directors discussed results, data-driven decisions, accountability, and meeting the needs of the students.

Directors Crockett and Ehrmann will lead the discussion on November 15, outlining Chapter 1, ìCultural Sifts: Transforming Schools Into Professional Learning Communities,î at a 6:15 p.m. learning session.

Adjournment.

Motion by Director Mayer to adjourn the meeting at 6:58 p.m.
