The Bulldogs led the Burlington Greyhounds from start to finish in a boys basketball game Friday, January 19, which turned into a Bettendorf free-throwing shooting clinic in the final minutes.
Bettendorf managed a respectable late-game performance at the line to preserve a 73-63 win and keep pace in the MAC conference race.
The Bulldogs surely would not have made it look so easy if not for forward, Nick Thompson. After knocking down Bettendorf's first three baskets, Thompson scored his own high school best of 36 points, along with 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
Although Bettendorf was struggling with two starters returning from injuries (Mike Martin, back sprain and Drew Wessels flu), the 'Dogs were in control most of the night. The win maintained the team's third spot in the MAC standings with a key match-up Friday (at home) against league-leading and sixth-rated Muscatine.
