The comprehensive Bettendorf bike/trail plan to be opened up for public discussion Monday (1/28) calls for bike lanes and a shared use path along 18th Street between 53rd Avenue and Spruce Hills Drive.
The busy 18th Street corridor also would get designated bike lanes between Spruce Hills Drive to Lincoln Road along with five-foot sidewalks on both sides of the street. South of Lincoln Road, 18th Street would have shared use lanes (also called sharrows) along with six-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the street.
Along Middle Road from Devils Glen to 23rd Street, where the city's recreation trail extension ran into opposition last year, the plan indicates a shared use (off street) path but narrower sidewalks than the 10-foot width initially proposed.
Bike lanes would not be added anywhere along Middle Road. Shared use 10-foot-wide paths already have been extended along Middle Road from Devils Glen east and north to 53rd Avenue, and the shared path would continue north beyond Interstate 80 in future years under the plan.
The city council approved spending $200,000 for development of the comprehensive citywide bike/trail plan by Shive-Hattery Engineering and the public is invited to view and comment on the plan Monday (1/28) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the QC Waterfront Convention Center on State Street.
