The Pleasant Valley School District grew by 270 students this fall, surpassing the Bettendorf Community School District in certified enrollment for the first time, according to figures released today (1/3) by the Iowa Department of Education.
Thanks to 622 open-enrolled students in Bettendorf (compared with 273 in Pleasant Valley schools), Bettendorf still has a larger "served enrollment" of 4,441 students compared with 4,169 students in Pleasant Valley schools.
Looking only at certified enrollment numbers, however, Pleasant Valley reported 4,230 student this fall, compared with certified enrollment of 4,046 students in Bettendorf schools.
Over the past five years, student enrollment in Pleasant Valley school has grown 18 percent, according to the state education office. In the same period, Bettendorf student enrollment has remain stable. In neighoring Davenport public schools, the number of students decreased 262 students to 15,940 for the 2012-13 school year.
