The popular Bettendorf Public Library Information Center is planning a $550,000 "Refreshovation" to meet the changing needs of users, and the library's foundation is hoping to raise half of the money needed to pay for the renovation.
The library at 2950 Learning Campus Drive was last remodeled 15 years ago, and the renovation is needed to reflect the changing use of the facility, according to library officials.
Space trends identified by the library include: less space needed for periodicals and reference collections as technology (computers) use increases; more space needed for audio and video resources and computer workstations; more space needed for the growing childrens' programming; more space needed for use by "Tweens," youth too old for the childrens' area but not old enough to use the Teen Center; and space needed for a "community living room" area for reading and relaxation.
According to the library's newsletter, circulation, library use and program attendance broke all records last year.
