Waiting for the bus on 18th Street

A young man sits on the ground in a new partially completed bus shelter on 18th Street, Bettendorf. The shelter is one of a half dozen new enclosures added recently along bus routes in the community, and is the first one on 18th Street, the city's main north-south traffic corridor.

The 10 new shelters were purchased by the transit department with the help of federal funds at a total cost of $77,900.

The locations of the new shelters are: Scott Community College campus; Lincoln and Kimberly Roads; Victoria Street and Tech Drive; 18th Street by Harris Pizza; Hawthorne Street and Horizon Court; the transit hub at 20th and State Street; in front of City Hall, 1609 State Street; along Learning Campus Drive; Maplecrest and Devils Glen Road; and Maplecrest Road and Victoria Street.

The shelter installation (glass and seating) is expected to be completed in the next two weeks.
