PV, North Scott schools agree on joint use of iWireless Center for 2016 graduation ceremonies

Pleasant Valley and North Scott schools will share the cost and use of iWireless Center in Moline for their graduation ceremonies next year, joining Davenport schools in utilizing the much larger civic center to accommodate the crowds of family and friends at the commencements.

That leaves Bettendorf as the only school district on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities still using its gymnasium for graduation ceremonies.

Seating for commencements in the high school gyms has always been limited and schools have tried to limit attendees with event tickets or asking graduates to bring only close family and relatives.

The 10,000-seat iWireless Center has been used by Davenport schools for many years to alleviate crowding, and Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley school officials have discussed sharing the cost and use of the civic center in the past.

However, those joint sharing plans between Pleasant Valley and Bettendorf never materialized. Bettendorf now uses its new performing arts center for overflow seating with a live video feed of the ceremony on a large screen.

The joint sharing agreement between Pleasant Valley and North Scott schools was approved at the Pleasant Valley school board meeting Monday (7/20).

Pleasant Valley's graduation will be held at noon, Sunday, May 29 with North Scott holding its commencement at 3:30 p.m. that day.
