More coffee and gas stations targeted for busy Bettendorf Middle and Devils Glen corridor

Bettendorf's already busy Middle and Devils Glen Road corridor would get yet another gas station – a 16-pump Kwik Trip – and a standalone Starbuck's Coffee shop if recommendations by the city's planning and zoning commission are approved by the city council.

The city council will consider both developments at its Tuesday (4/3) meeting.

The proposed Kwik Trip convenience store and gas station would be built on the northeast corner of Devils Glen and Belmont Roads and has triggered opposition from residents along Maple Glen Drive who voiced concerns about traffic and noise to the plan commission. It would be similar to the convenience store/gas station along 53rd Avenue west of 18th Street, according to company officials, and include two car wash bays on the east side of the property.

Hy-Vee Food Store has obtained approval to build a new gas station at the corner of Middle and Devils Glen after the Governor's Pub and Grill relocates and that building is demolished. Shell and BP have operated gas stations for years at Middle and Devils Glen Roads locations.

The new Starbuck's would be built between Bettendorf Office Products and the IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union and have access off Middle Road. In addition to a Starbucks in the Hy-Vee Food Store, an Atomic Coffee recently was approved to be built just east of Middle Road and north of Belmont Avenue on Ridge Pointe Road. A Coffee Hound Coffee Shop is located in a strip mall along Devils Glen, and just north of Belmont Road.
